Ever wondered what 500 tögrög look like? Well, look no further.
This morning, colleague Peter Horn wondered into the office in which I sit, and proffereda note promising the bearer the use of 500 of Mongolia’s national currency units (or about 47 of your fine New Zealand cents). He reckon it’ll buy Dane ‘n me a cheap meal on the roadside in Mongolia. Which is _awesome_ :)
Doubly so as we’ll be needing to take in all the currency we want to use, and so this is one less thing to worry about.
Chur, Peter!
Also, how cool is this currency?! It has all yurts (NOT gers) and bison* and The “”Drinking Fountain” at Genghis Khan’s court” on it. AWESOME.
* While looking it up to ensure that ‘bison’ was the correct kind of animal, I came across this talk from the American Bison Society** about managing the genetic integrity of bison, and learning from Mongolia. Piqued my interest somewhat, given that my one of my majors back in university was genetics :)
** Who knew there was an American Bison Society?!*** Gosh, the things one learns on the internet…
*** But of COURSE there’s an American Bison Society.
