Well, at least for us!
On the evening of the 5th of August, we arrived in Ulaanbataar*. A week early, and having covered just over 11,000km :P
We tied 5th/6th overall in getting to UB, and (with team The Bumpstart Bandits), were 1st/2nd to get our cars, intact, to UB through the car-eating ‘Western Crossing’. Said crossing takes one almost 2,000km across Western/Central Mongolia, passing through the aimag capitals of Olgii, Khovd, Altai, Bayankhongor and Arvaikheer.
Anyhoo, stay tuned for a whole buncha upcoming posts, where we regale you with some of the tales of our trip, plus some awesome time-lapse, video and photo footage :)
And in the meantime: our final route (ish), as marked on the Mongol Rally map. Oh, and look out for us in this weekend’s Dominion Post!
And, of course, a big thanks to our sponsors Face Limited and Viva Mexico, as well as to all the people who donated towards our expenses :)
* We got back to dear ol’ Wellington this last Monday, the 20th August. Yes, we actually managed to survive two weeks in UB O_o. (We’d have changed flights, but Air New Zealand wanted the full price for two one-way tickets as the cost of the change (over 3 grand), so we stayed…)
