Honda’s brought out a new hybrid – the Insight – and we’re getting to test drive it for a weekend :)
A week or so ago, aimee saw an ad on Facebook, from Honda, inviting people to submit their friends and have said friend get given an Insight for a weekend, in order to really test it and its fuel efficiency.
aimee immediately had Dane submit her*. Because she likes all things hybrid/EV, and luuurves Hondas. And, clever chap that he is, he remembered to mention the Rally!
We had already been planning on a drive up to Auckland and back over a Sat/Sun very soon: we need to get used to long car drives in the presence of each other in small confined spaces with stress and being tired etc etc. We had, of course, planned to take Derek, our awesome li’l blue Peugot.
However, Honda got all curious about the Rally and called us back to ask more, and ended up offering us the Insight for the weekend in question.
Which is kinda perfect :) Not only is there the fun of a new car and a substantially reduced fuel bill, but, far more importantly, this is far less emissions-naughty. Which is awesome. ‘Cause we realise that, much as the Rally is raising brilliant funds for charities, it would be good to be able to do so while screwing with the environment as little as possible. Especially emissions-wise**.
And I’m curious about how a hybrid might travel over distances and mad hills and insane sheep.
Even better? The rep with whom we spoke is a Wellingtonian, and so is rooting for us to get the best fuel efficiency of the drives thus far. Which we reckon we can do. As long as Dane isn’t allowed to drive it. ‘Cause he drives cars like motorcycles.
Yay!

** Yes. We are filthy lefty liberal types. We are OK with this. We are also raging technophiles, so hybrids/EVs make us happy on numerous counts :)

You can’t drive a car like a motorcycle – they don’t make them anywhere near fast enough.

[…] reasoning? Well, we’d already decided we need to start doing long road trips to practise for the Rally. […]
