Crays incoming…

Well, one Cray.

But still, a Cray!  Of the supercomputer variety :)

Mongolia is, for the very first time, getting in one of these marvellous beasties – XE6m minicluster –  to help them better forecast the weather.  Which, due to the mixture of beeeg, steeeep mountains and plateaus, has somewhat changeable weather.

Something about which those of us living in New Zealand know nothing*.

More details (and the source of the featured image!) from El Reg.

Mongolia. Cray. You get the idea...

——

* This is a lie.  Of the flagrant variety. Thankfully, we have Fitzroy to help us.  And before Fitzroy?  We had a Cray, too!

** We are assuming that the Mongolia’s National Agency of Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring, where the Cray is to be housed, is in Ulan Bator. A (brief, admittedly) search failed to turn up its address.
